Since the Playpit Nuneaton opened in March 2009 we have made a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprint. We have introduced various methods of recycling to make children aware of the damage we are doing to our planet and encourage them to reduce their own waste by clearly labelling our bins. We have recycling bins for plastic bottles and another for cans to help our environment. We also take off our rings pulls from the empty cans and currently give these to St Thomas More School. They send these to the Philippines which enable the poorer people to make and sell things from them. We have seen these items such as handbags and pencil cases on sale at the Eden project. For our parties we have swapped disposable plastic cups for reusable ones. This has drastically reduced our waste when you consider we may use hundreds of these cups per week. By making use of our shutter door this allows additional natural light to enter the play centre. This means we do not have to rely solely on electrical lighting to see and find our way through the play frame. |
